We will continue talks with Egypt - Haneyya

Deputy Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya said in a Friday sermon that his Movement is keen to maintain good relations with Egypt.

AhlulBayt News Agency - Deputy Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya said in a Friday sermon that his Movement is keen to maintain good relations with Egypt.

Haneyya revealed that the meetings with the Egyptian officials were a good start, stressing that his Movement’s policy towards Egypt is the same as with other Arab countries.

"We didn’t intervene in Egyptian internal affairs and we have no security or military role in Sinai or elsewhere," he said.

“We will never allow anything that stems from the Gaza Strip to harm the security of Egypt and its people. We also reaffirm our duty to protect the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt and to take all necessary actions for this purpose.”

He pointed out that the recent meetings between a Hamas delegation and Egyptian intelligence officials dealt with the difficult humanitarian situation in Gaza and the future of the Palestine case.

"We are keen to maintain our relations with Egypt and our national constants as well," Haneyya continued.

On the other hand, Haneyya said that talks with Fatah Movement to implement national reconciliation are still ongoing but away from the media.

“We totally support implementing national reconciliation, ending internal division, and boosting our people’s steadfastness.”

A high profile delegation of Hamas Movement visited last week Egypt and met with a number of Egyptian Intelligence Service officials.
